New birch named in honour of Kenneth
September 12, 2011
A new species of birch tree, Betula ashburneri. has been named in honour of Kenneth Ashburner, the modern-day plant hunter who created Stone Lane Garden. This graceful small tree can be seen growing in the garden, along with a plaque designed by Iain Rice to commemorate Kenneth’s life and work. His book on birch is being completed by Martyn Rix and Hugh McAllister and will be published by Kew in 2012.
