Betula lenta (Cherry Birch)
Blackish-brown bark. Thin, delicate twigs that are very smooth and shiny. Twigs and bark smell strongly of wintergreen when broken or torn. Hornbeam-like leaves with very rich yellow autumn colour. Trees popular for tapping; yielding sweet and copious sap for wine and syrup making.
