Hard graft at the garden
February 23, 2016
Our Garden Manager Paul Bartlett has been hard at work producing new trees for our collections using a variety of grafting techniques.
Here he has grafted scion material (a shoot from the plant we want to grow, in this case a white Himalayan birch) onto the base of a common silver birch (Betula pendula).
We are grafting more trees each year and steadily refining our techniques, as reproduction of genetic material is an important element of our conservation work.
