Friendly Conservation Charity seeks Trustees
August 13, 2018
Stone Lane Gardens, the home of the Mythic Garden sculpture exhibition, is looking to recruit new volunteer Trustees.
We are a small, friendly conservation and educational charity based at Stone Farm, near Chagford.
This is an exciting time to be a Trustee, as we look forward to making the most of our National Collections of birch and alder trees, the Mythic Garden sculpture exhibition and the property and land bequeathed to the charity.
Our mission is to conserve birch and alder trees by promoting, researching, propagating and displaying our National Collections in a beautiful arboretum to educate and inform the public, alongside an educational display of high quality art in a natural setting. We would welcome volunteers who are interested in any aspect of the work of the charity and ideally have some experience in business, finance, fund-raising, public relations or running a gallery. Appreciation of horticulture, garden design or art would also be useful.
If you are local, it would be easier for you to attend meetings and get involved, but living nearby is not essential. If you need help with transport, we may be able to assist.
We meet four times a year and our next AGM is October 2nd. This may be a good opportunity to come and meet the other trustees and tell us about the skills you could bring to the charity. In addition to attending meetings, you would be advised to allow about 8 days a year for follow-up work and visits to the garden.
Being a Trustee is a rewarding role, with responsibility for setting the overall strategic direction and development of the charity and for making sure it achieves its charitable objectives. We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates from all backgrounds regardless of age, disability, gender and sexual orientation. See the Charity Commission website for more information and to check your eligibility to act as a trustee.
If you are interested, please contact Pru Barnes, the secretary to the Trustees, for a chat.
