Assistant Gardener job vacancy

Assistant Gardener required

Stone Lane Gardens are looking for an enthusiastic, outdoor-loving person to join our organisation as an assistant gardener.

Stone Lane Gardens is a woodland and water garden that is open to the public all year round, with a summer sculpture exhibition. We also run a small nursery, specialising in Birch and Alder propagated from our National Collections.

We are a local charity that is in the process of expanding its operations. With new areas of planting, a renewed focus on improving the biodiversity of our estate, better facilities for our visitors and an increase in artistic events, this is an exciting time to get involved in our organisation.

As the assistant gardener, you will be trained and directed by our Garden Manager, working alongside part-time staff and our loyal band of volunteers. The tasks vary depending on the season, but you will need to be reasonably fit as this is a physically active role. You will need some horticultural knowledge and experience, though additional ‘on the job’ training will be given. You will also need to be computer-literate and familiar with standard office software, as the role will involve some administration tasks.

We are looking for someone who is hard-working, reliable, adaptable and able to get along with visitors and staff.

The role will attract a pro-rata 20 days per annum annual leave, plus relevant statutory holidays, pension contribution and a good rate of pay. It is offered initially as a one-year annual hours contract of 1250 hours per annum (roughly 4 days a week), with flexible working arrangements to be agreed to suit the seasonality of the charity and the individual.

If you are interested, please apply by email to info@stonelanegardens.com for the attention of Paul Bartlett, Garden Manager. Include your CV and a brief introduction.
