34: As Above So Below

About As Above So Below

Carved stone with oak plinth

In this piece, I bought the stone from a builders yard in Corsham near Bath and Bristol, right above the large vein of Bath stone, when I was there in my previous job as a taxi driver. So no excess mileage. The plinth was formerly a huge oak beam used in the dockyard in Plymouth and shows signs of its former use.

I’m intrigued by the notion that the root system of trees roughly cover as much area as the tree above the earth. To me, everything is connected. In my work I often use reclaimed Bath stone as I recycle as much as I can.
