51: Not a Single Bee

Hand carved York Stone. Quotation – Pavan Sukhdev UN report “the economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity

“Not a single bee has ever sent you an invoice, and that is part of the problem – because most of what comes to us from nature is free, because it is not invoiced, not priced, because it is not traded in markets, we tend to ignore it”

My work is frequently described as “romantic, poetic and lyrical” which is probably a good description of me as well as my work. My long-standing passion for geology led me to carving stone, learning to carve stone felt like a natural way to express myself and the perfect link to between art and geology. Inspiration for garden sculpture usually comes from natures patterns and botanical forms, as well as environmental concerns and the effects of these on nature. All lettering is hand drawn and hand cut as a response to the words chosen, as a result each piece is unique and timeless. I love the creation of chisel marks and the detail that can be applied to stone, I work only in stone sourced from the UK and Ireland such as Welsh Slate and Portland Limestone. I exhibit widely across the UK as well as undertaking private and public commissions.
