Attractive yellow-brown bark with a silvery metallic sheen; slightly rough and peeling in thin tatters. Looks particularly good in winter. Very good yellow Autumn leaf colour. Strong smell of wintergreen when twigs or bark is scraped. An interesting and unusual tree from North America, rarely planted in the UK. Prefers damp, but not waterlogged, soil.
