Katherine Anstead

As a sculptor, I explore the intricate relationship between humanity and nature. Using

materials such as concrete, ceramics, stone and wood, creating objects that reflect our

interaction with the landscape.

Nature’s textures, forms, and rhythms inspire me, as do the effects of weather, erosion, and

human activity. Through my work, I aim to capture the balance between permanence and

transience, weaving narratives that resonate and create conversations with the viewer.

This connection with nature informs my sculptures, which embody themes of memory and

erosion, reflecting humanity’s lasting impact on the earth, with the material they are made of

an important ingredient in their contextual presence.

After completing my Sculptural BA at Wimbledon School of Art, followed by a Post Graduate

Diploma in Architectural stonework Conservation, I spent many years repairing and

conserving many stone artefacts, structures and building features in Ecclesiastical and

Heritage settings. This created and fueled my interest in how objects interact with their

particular environments and how we have manipulated our environments and how nature

reflects back at us and how we then

In order to further reconnect with my practice I recently graduated from Arts University

Plymouth with a Masters in Fine Art. This has allowed me to further explore my ideas of

bringing my conversations into fostering dialogue about our role in shaping the world around

us.
