54: Seed Form

When gardening I look at different seeds and observe the vegetable seedling developing. On
discovering this piece of Lime wood, grown in the south west, the seed observations inspired
me to create this seed form sculpture.

The slow process of carving wood with hand tools is a conversation with the wood, my inspiration and myself. All my sculptures are inspired by the unique qualities of a specific piece of wood, a form in nature or a geometric form. Sometimes all three come together and a new sculpture is born. I have been based in Devon since the early 90’s and worked for many years pedagogically with three dimensional arts and crafts.
